CNN Article

President Obama has made the decision to prolong and expand  the war in Afghanistan.  His followers are not happy with his decision to send 30,000 plus troops to war.  He started with anti-war and now he is going to war.  Some agree some do not agree with his decision to send the troops.  People in Obama’s own political party disagrees strongly with his decision.  Obama is planning on starting to withdraw the American contingent in July 2011.  In my opinion, he is somewhat being a hypocrite because his campaign while running for presidency included stopping and bringing troops home from war, but now he is bringing more over?  I do not understand the logical of this decision to keep him popular with the American people and to sustain another term in office.

Once upon a time there was a beautiful young girl named Susan.  She was very tired one afternoon and fell sleep on her big, comfortable bed. She was in a deep sleep, but suddenly awoke with an extremely bad migraine.  Susan had no idea where she was, but she looked down, and noticed her arms and legs were bright orange, and her clothes were yellow and blue polka dotted.  She had literally turned into a cartoon character.  She was in an unknown town, but looked around and noticed a big sign which said “Toon Town”.  As she started to walk to get information on how she got here, her shoes began to bounce.  For every step she took, she was lifted 3 feet into the air.  Her shoes had magical powers which made her float.  As she was floating along in Toon Town, she heard a person say “Hello there!”, but when Susan turned, all she saw were trees.  The tree was talking to her!  Susan was extremely confused and did not understand what was going on, but she went along with it because nothing logical was happening in Toon Town.  Susan asked the tree many questions about where she was and how she got here, but the tree had no answers.  The tree told her of a giant long wall that never ended and Toon Town was enclosed by this wall. Susan thought the only way to get back to her our home again was to get over the wall.   She had thought and thought of ways to get over the wall, but remembered her shoes which made her bounce very high.  Susan walked over to the wall, jumped with all her might, and made it over.  When she got over the wall all that was on the other side was a heart shaped box.  She opened the box and was sucked into it.  She discovered herself back at home, on her couch, and her terrible migraine was gone.   Susan had never figured out what happened to her on that fateful day, but always remembered the things that went on in Toon Town.

Today in class, My classroom buddy, Caitlin Llewellyn, and I learned how to change the color of the theme on your blog.  To start off, type into the web address, www.wordpress.com. Then, log into your account at the top of the screen where it says username, password.  After you have signed in, look at the top my the screen and drag the mouse onto  the “My Account” link.  Scroll down to the “Edit Profile” link and click.  From there, you will find under Personal Options, it will say Admit Color Scheme.  Lastly, you could decide on whether you like the gray background which is set as the default, or switch it to the blue background.  These steps will help make your wordpress blog more exciting!

My article describes the second earthquake in the Samoan Islands which killed more than 130 people. The 5.5-magnitude earthquake occurred at 6:13 p.m. Wednesday evening.   President Obama sent FEMA to help support the survivors of the earthquake.  The earthquake triggered a small tsunami as well.

Mavis Beacon Questions

  1. Can you do these stretches sitting down or standing up?
  2. What posture should you always begin at?
  3. Why is breathing helpful?
  4. Choose three of these stretches as your favorite.  Why did you select them?

Answers -

1. You can do these stretches both standing or sitting down.

2. You should begin at a neutral beginning posture before stretching.

3. Breathing is helpful while typing and doing these exercises because it helps calm down your body after stretching and typing for long hours.

4. My three favorite exercises are the windmill, the shoulder roll, and the wrist bends.  The windmill is very effective because it helps loosen up your arms from stressful cramps.  The shoulder roll is a very comfortable exercise and loosens up you shoulders. Lastly, the wrist bend is very effective because after long hours of typing it really helps your fingers and progresses your typing skills.

Mavis Beacon Lesson

  1. List 10 new facts that you did not know before
  2. What is CTD?
  3. Why do CTD’s occur?
  4. What is Ergonomics

Answers:

1. I learned what CTD is, and what the effects of it are. I also learned that CTD is a very serious problem and can effect a person in the future if they continue with their bad habits.  Also, I learned what  Ergonomics are and how they effect your body structure and position on the computer.

2. Cumulative Trauma Disorders

3. Actives that accumulate motion to the body that is stressful like holding an uncomfortable position while on the computer causes CTD. CTD could also be triggered by the way our body initiates motion in a very uncomfortable or abnormal position.  CTD is also developed when there is a focused amount of stress on a certain part of your body.

4. Ergonomics is the science that deals with people, their work environment, and the people in it.

Why I Came To St. Mary’s

I decided to come to St. Mary’s High School because I felt comfortable here.  My mother, Mrs. Buckley, is the head of the math department here at the school, and has been teaching at St. Mary for 5 years.  When I was younger I would come here to visit her on my days off from school, and I enjoyed the environment.  The students were very nice and as I got older, I started to like the fact of a small school.  When I started high school last year, even though it was a new experience, I was not nervous because I new most of the ropes here.  I joined the volleyball team and many after school clubs.  As my freshman year went by, honestly I did not enjoy the school as much as I used to.  In my opinion, everything seemed different than the years before. As a sophomore now I have began to enjoy the school once again, and hope that nothing will change my mind about St. Mary High School.

Bad Posture

I googled how bad posture is bad for you and found the website, “buzzle.com/articles/the-consequences-of-bad-posture.html.  On this website I found these five points that reinforce Mrs. Fagan’s lesson today. These five points are:

1.) Some of the consequesces of bad posture are increased injury risk, increased bone problems, decreased height growth, increased appearance of body fat, and decreased exercise and sport performance.

2.)  Bones have excess stress from the body placed upon them when you have bad posture

3.) When you sit in a hunched over position, the muscles in the back can actually shorten so they are almost permanently locked in this position.

4.) If you do sports or other activities, having bad posture means if you are hit or twist yourself into a funny position, there is a very good chance that your body is going to suffer from some type of muscle strain or pull.

5.) Making yourself aware if you’re using bad posture is a must.

Independent Practice CNN

This article is about Annie Le, a 24 year old a pharmacology student from Yale University, was murdered by a coworker of hers, Raymond Clark.  He was apprehended at a Super Motel 8 on a highway in New Haven, Connecticut.  Le and Clack both worked in the same building, and passed each other in the hallways, but besides that, police have found no other contact.  Le was found in the basement wall of an off campus medical building the day she was supposed to be married.  This story reminds me of most episodes of the TV show “Law and Order”, where innocent people get killed everyday.  This article actually interested me and it did not loose my attention at all.  If I could choose a different ending to this article it would be for the police to have found Annie before she was murdered.  Raymond Clark’s court date was set to October 6, and with all the evidence the police have against him even though they have no released it to the press, Clark should be found guilty.
